For Geo-Students

Become a Student Member of the Geo-Institute

Student Membership in the Geo-Institute is free and is open to full-time students pursuing post-baccalaureate degrees in engineering, the physical sciences, the life sciences, or mathematics.

Student Members of ASCE can become G-I members by choosing the Geo-Institute as an Area of Interest, and do not need to fill out an additional application.

  • For Student G-I Membership: Download the Membership Application (.pdf). When you submit your application, please include proof of current enrollment as a full-time student in a post-baccalaureate program. Please do not send a photocopy of a student ID.

  • Student Members of ASCE: Log in to your ASCE account or contact ASCE Member Services to add the Geo-Institute as your Area of Interest.

Graduate Student OrganizationsThe sought-after Atterberg Cup

Graduate students at any U. S. college or university, who are also individual student members of the Geo-Institute, are encouraged to form a Graduate Student Organization (GSO) at their university.

Members of GSOs must be active student members of the Geo-Institute. There are no dues requirements for GSOs. The GSO is, however, permitted to engage in appropriate activities to raise funds to support its activities.

Each GSO faculty advisor receives a GSO Membership Certificate and an appointment letter signed by the President of the Geo-Institute. The Geo-Institute Board, or its designated representative committee, may organize activities for student organizations at specialty conferences, ASCE annual conventions, or elsewhere, that involve paper competitions, professional education and similar activities. The Geo-Institute will have a link from its homepage to the GSO's homepage.

The function of local GSOs is the enhancement of the education of students who are preparing to become geo-professionals. These organizations engage in activities of their choice as long as such activities do not violate the code of ethics of the Geo-Institute.
