Resolution 99-03 Endorsing the Establishment of a Center for Trenchless Infrastructure Systems

Whereas, it is the Mission of the Geo-Institute to " ... integrate the talents and perspectives of individual geo-professionals to:

  1. advance the state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice of the geo-industry; and
  2. provide leadership on educational, professional, and public policy issues;" and
Whereas, the membership of the Geo-Institute includes engineers, scientists, and technicians actively involved with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of underground utilities; and

Whereas, there is a critical need for new technologies to address the problems of rehabilitating existing and installing new facilities, given the age and generally poor state of our existing underground utilities and the needs for new facilities driven by our expanding population; and

Whereas, the "dig and disturb" approach of our past is simply not acceptable for dealing with our future needs for underground utilities.

Therefore, be it Resolved that the Board of Governors of the Geo-Institute enthusiastically supports the establishment of a Center for Trenchless Infrastructure Systems; and

Be it Further Resolved that the Geo-Institute hereby pledges to support the development of a center through national information dissemination, which will be accomplished through the volunteer efforts of G-I members.

Approved by the Geo-Institute Board of Governors this 12th day of June 1999.
